To commemorate the first birthday of their World of Warplanes game, Wargaming.net launched an ‘Anniversary Artwork Contest’ in which they asked their users to “grab a brush and pencil and come up with an original Anniversary-themed picture”. Among the prizes were bundles of in-game currency and premium time, as well as several Italeri model kits. I ended up winning a 1/72 Spitfire F. Mk. VII and some in-game gold with my submission seen above.

The artwork was completed by creating a custom stencil and some watercolour/aquarelle paint. I first drew out the design on a thick sheet of paper, which I then cut out and put on top of a sheet of aquarelle painting paper. By using several layers of different colours, some more overal depth to the final result was added.
